Whiskey Island (the land mass) is actually a peninsula and can be found at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. A distillery was built there in 1836, hence its name. The island has suffered multiple incarnations: it has been a dump, a US Coast Guard Station, a ship graveyard, and a predominantly Irish immigrant shanty town. Whiskey Island was triangular in shape, almost an isosceles but not quite, with its northern boundary as its base. The island's northern limits were where the Penn-Central mainline tracks now run. The land now north of there resulted both from the action of the lake and the action of men, who carted fill there faster than the lake could reclaim it. Whiskey Island is a Romantic Private Island rich in history-capturing the ambiance of the past. One of the oldest island cottages in the 1000 Islands, this island is perfect for family getaways, or for that romantic adventure shared for two. Island whiskies are produced on any of the islands of Scotland, except for Islay. Because of their distinct, peaty flavours Islay is a separate Scottish whisky region.
